With a profile and reputation that suggests they have been around a lot longer than they have. The emphatic melodic metal band that is Phoenix Lake rose in 2018. This, from the ashes of Descending Angels, a rock band that formed around 2015.

With a new name, a new direction, and a complete line-up, Phoenix Lake was ready to take on the world, and then the world shut down. Something that proved to be a problem for the band as they had plenty of music ready to go. They released the single ‘Wicked Game’ near the end of 2021, and then dropped a few throughout 2022, on route to the release of their debut EP ‘Beyond the Flames.’

Released in June of this year, the EP showcased every aspect of Phoenix Lake as they stand in 2023. Epic melodies, gargantuan harmonies, blistering metal… the EP is a triumphant example of Phoenix Lake’s rise. They’ve waited, they’ve built, and now they have arrived. So, it’s no surprise that Bloodstock was more than happy to book them for this year’s festival. The strength of the song and video – Come Alive, enough to earn them a spot on the Sophie Lancaster stage.

It’s going to be an early morning Sunday slot by the look of it, but there’s not going to be many better ways to wake up to, than with the massive sound of Phoenix Lake. Trot along and see what all the fuss is about, you’re going to come away wowed. Don’t take our word for it though, we spoke to them about what it means to play the festival, what Bloodstock means to them, and what attendees can expect from their show. They had this to say:

Opening the prestigious Sophie Lancaster stage on the last day is phenomenal, as avid attendees of Bloodstock it’s an incredible honour. We’re putting in blood, sweat and tears to bring everyone an explosive live set. With something for everyone; thrashing melodies, huge riffs and soaring vocals… we’re excited to stir the revellers and kick off, what will be for us, a life-changing experience.
