Album Review: Urze de Lume – As Árvores Estão Secas e Não Têm Folhas (Equilibrium Music)

The third album and first with Equilibrium Music of Urze de Lume is called ‘As Árvores Estão Secas e Não Têm Folhas’ was released on March 10th 2018.

Urze de Lume 2

Twelve tracks of dark folk melodies. As Árvores Estão Secas e Não Têm Folhas is a mostly instrumental album, one strongly inspired by both nature and Iberian traditions. A soothing journey that is about relaxing the mind & body.

Sombre at times, upbeat and light during others…this is an album to lie back, close your eyes and lose yourself in. The use of wind instruments, discreet percussion and bagpipes on occasion makes for a really expansive listen.

Urze de Lume make you feel as though you’re walking softly through an ancient forest, the silence surrounding you with only the crunching of leaves as your companion.

If the album does have one fault it is that it’s a bit too long. Twelve tracks see it run out of steam near the end as the journey becomes that little more arduous and less entrancing. Still, it’s an incredibly effort and one that will stick in the mind long afterwards.
