Album Review: Skullcrush – Archaic Towers of Annihilation (Redefining Darkness Records/Raw Skull Records)

Emerging from their desert crypts, the Barbarian Horde known as Skullcrush are set to unleash their mighty primitive assault on their debut full length, ‘Archaic Towers of Annihilation’. Building off of their critically acclaimed ‘Visions of the Firestorm Eclipse’ EP, Redefining Darkness Records are once again teaming up with European label Raw Skull Recordz to bring you one of the strongest and most primal Death Metal releases of 2019!

They mean that too. Archaic Towers of Annihilation is akin to the creatures that lived in the swamps of the Earth way back in its infancy. Thoughtless and beastly, its thoughts are only focused on one thing… consume.

Six tracks of savagery with an intro and an ‘intermission’, Skullcrush live up to their name. The weight of their death metal pushing down hard, snapping bones and tearing flesh. It’s not even that they play fast all the time, as the doomier elements of Overthrown show.

However, when they do, the band are at their most brutalising. A bludgeoning like little else this year; Monumental Tomb, Buried and Forgotten and Voice of the Abhorred Dread will maim.

The best track on the album though is Nightmares for the Blind, the drums alone are powerful enough to cause a vomiting session. Although Foretoken Punishment comes mighty close. Skullcrush delivering blow after blow until there is nothing but a dribbling wreck left.
