Album Review: Full of Hell – Coagulated Bliss (Closed Casket Activities)

Once again, chaos is unleashed. This time, it comes in the form of ‘Coagulated Bliss’. The new album from grindcore legends, Full of Hell. It will be released on April 26th, 2024, via Closed Casket Activities.

Let’s begin by stating the obvious. Something everyone who has experienced Full of Hell can confirm. You don’t listen to this band; you get subjected to them. Their music is the epitome of aural punishment, and every word you can think of to describe a frenzy of noise can be used when describing the band, and this album.

Full of Hell are back, and while they are as horribly intense as ever, this album comes with a deeper focus on song-writing. The chaos is still there, don’t be fooled, but there are so many clear attempts to make this a tighter and more absorbing listen. Something that is reflected in both the variety and length of many of the tracks. Full of Hell aren’t standing still, and nor will you once you get your ears around Coagulated Bliss.

The pits will open wide from the start, Full of Hell setting the ferocity bar at an impossible high with the first few tracks; Half Life of Changelings, Doors to Mental Agony, and Transmuting Chemical Burns. Remember, they might be grindcore maniacs but they have a filthy noise metal sound too. Chances are, you’ll already be feeling a bit battered and bruised. Dust yourself off though, there is so much more to come.

Delivering uncomfortable blackened ugliness that has a daring ‘catchiness’ to it with Fractured Bonds to Mecca. Then adding punk and hardcore vibes into the mix with the title track. Before pulling a near seven-minute slab of doom-infused and horror-laden eccentricity called Bleeding Horizon out of their asses. There is no better example of how creative Full of Hell are then this brilliant piece of obnoxious noise.

It’s a frenetic race to the finish following that, so no time to catch the breath. Vomiting Glass, Schizoid Rupture, Vacuous Dose, Gasping Dust, and Gedling of Man. Track after track of unbridled dynamic aggression and intensity. To some degree, you know what you’re getting a lot of the time with Full of Hell, and the second half of the album doesn’t disappoint. Spoilers: it’s mostly undiluted chaos and unrelenting noise with massive replay value.

Can you take one more? No one would blame you if you felt like tapping out at this stage, but if you can, Full of Hell have one more in them and it’s the knockout blow. Ending this latest bout of chaos with Malformed Ligature. A finale that is pure mania, but also has these slow groovy moments that will make you smile.
